Pain-Free Injections Palm Harbor
Easy, Breezy Anesthesia for Young Smiles
For many children, the worst part of their dental care experience is the injections. Receiving anesthesia can be very uncomfortable for young, tender smiles! Here in our Palm Harbor pediatric dentistry practice, we are committed to making these easier for our patients. That is why we use the special SOAN anesthetic injection pen. It can administer truly pain-free injections for kids! How does this remarkable process work? Continue reading below to find out. You are also welcome to call us to ask questions.
01 – Getting Things Started
To start the numbing process, we apply a specially formulated topical numbing cream that we describe in friendly terms as a “numbing jelly.” We do this only after your child is comfortably settled in the treatment chair with a movie and headphones. We may also administer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help them relax.
02 – Administering the Anesthesia
We will let your child see our injection wand. It has pretty lights and buttons on it — in fact, it was designed specifically for kids. We describe it as a “thermometer” that is going to take the temperature of their teeth. Kids associate thermometers with the pain-free instruments that Mom and Dad use at home to check if they have a fever at home. Avoiding scary associations can make for a much easier experience! Once your child has seen the wand, we slip it into their mouth next to the tooth so it can start slowly delivering numbing medication. We can easily control the amount of medication given via the use of a Bluetooth foot pedal. It’s that easy!
03 – Fast & Easy Treatment
Unlike traditional numbing, our method usually takes effect after just a few moments. That means we can start working on your child’s tooth before they start to get bored or uneasy. This leads to an overall easier treatment experience. Plus, your child will get to make a trip to our Treasure Chest that much faster!
04 – Uncomplicated Aftercare
One wonderful aspect of this numbing method is that it works exclusively on the teeth, not the gums, lips, or cheeks. That means your child can eat and drink right after most dental procedures. And, they will be less likely to accidentally bite and injure their cheeks after their appointment.
